Today
we live on times of social upheaval; the streets are the scene of protests and
demonstrations, where challenges such as gender equality are placed in
discussion. Fatherhood, no doubt, is
part of this discussion. How has changed the man and his role in fatherhood? That
is the question that I will try to answer in this essay
Some
years ago, it was normal to see mothers raising alone his children, because the
role assigned to the father was work to keep his family, leaving his work of raising
his child aside. Historically has prevailed a vision insensitive of the man,
clumsy and unable to perform the upbringing of a child, as the breadwinner of
the family that must just work to ensure the stability of it. Nowadays, the
things has change. Studies and the reality show that the man is as capable as
the woman of carrying out breeding; little by little the image of insensitivity
have been changed to responsible parents worried about fatherhood. While it has
not been easy, many injustices of that old thinking prevalent: Why the
postnatal period of the man is less than the women is? It is a question which I
can not answer, but that expresses inequality.
In
my view, fatherhood is a right that must assume the father, a process that
should be regarded with the eyes of today, something that dignifies the human
and enriches the lives of children
